Step 1: Obtain My PAL (CFSC)

The first step towards obtaining your PAL firearms licence is to complete the mandatory national safety training: The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC). At Range Arts we call it Obtain My PAL (CFSC) because completing the CFSC allows you to apply for your PAL.

The CFSC is 1-day course with our Certified Instructor. It provides theoretical and practical gun safety training. At the end of the course you’ll be tested on the knowledge and skills you acquired that day.

10 Hours of Instruction & Testing – $209.99

  • The Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) allows the holder to purchase and use Non-Restricted firearms (such as rifles and shotguns commonly used for hunting). The PAL is an official national ID card, like a driver’s licence for firearms.

  • After completing your CFSC The Firearms Safety Education Service of Ontario (FSESO) will issue you proof by mail (called a course report). Your course report will qualify you to apply to the RCMP for your PAL.

Funny, very informative, simplifies everything. You’ll never fall asleep. Probably the best in the business in the GTA.

Step 2 (Optional): Upgrade To RPAL (CRFSC)

Those who plan to purchase and/or use Restricted firearms (for example, using handguns unsupervised) will need to complete The Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Courses (CRFSC). Upgrade to RPAL (CRFSC) allows you to upgrade the privileges of a PAL to an RPAL.

The CRFSC is a 1-day course. It builds on the knowledge you gained in your CFSC and is, therefore, slightly shorter.

8 Hours of Instruction & Testing – $209.99*

*$169.99 if within 30 days after your CFSC. When completing this course within 30 days after your Obtain My PAL(CFSC) we will apply a $40 discount when you arrive at your course.

  • The Restricted Possession and Acquisition Licence (RPAL) allows the holder to purchase and use Restricted firearms (such as some semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and handguns). Restricted firearms are limited to use at licensed shooting ranges and have different storage and transportation requirements to Non-restricted firearms.

Please note that handguns are no longer available for purchase in Canada but can still be used unsupervised by RPAL holders. Some shooting ranges still prefer members to hold an RPAL.

  • The prerequisite is completing Obtain My PAL (CFSC) or already possessing a valid PAL. It’s okay to complete your CFSC just 1 day before your Upgrade To RPAL (CRFSC).

If you completed your Obtain MY PAL (CFSC) with Range Arts then no proof is necessary. If you completed it elsewhere you'll need to provide written proof from the instructor or show us your valid PAL.

  • When this course is taken within 30 days after completing your Obtain My PAL (CFSC), you are eligible for a discount of $40. We will deduct the discount when you arrive for your course. We endeavour to do this automatically but please remind us if it applies to you.

If it has been longer than 30 days since your course, the regular price of $209.99+HST will be applicable.

  • After completing your CRFSC, the Firearms Safety Education Service of Ontario (FSESO) will issue you proof by mail (called a course report).

Your course report qualifies you to apply to the RCMP for your RPAL, so long as you either already have a valid PAL, or have completed your CFSC. You can either apply to upgrade your PAL to an RPAL, or apply all at once for the RPAL (which includes PAL privileges).

  • Unfortunately, no, there is a national "handgun transfer freeze". This means handguns can no longer be bought, sold, or gifted in Canada. An RPAL will currently allow the holder to use handguns at ranges, either by borrowing from a friend who is present or by renting from a range.

Booking in advance:
Securing your booking early is highly recommended. Upgrade To RPAL (CRFSC) can be booked in advance for as early as the next day after your Obtain My PAL (CFSC). We give you the flexibility to schedule the two courses separately, but feel free to take them back-to-back (sometimes called “combined courses”).
