Step 1: Learn To Hunt (OHEP)

The first step towards obtaining your Ontario Outdoors Card (hunting licence) is to complete the mandatory provincial training course: The Ontario Hunter Education Program (OHEP). At Range Arts we call it Learn To Hunt (OHEP).

Learn To Hunt (OHEP) is an in-person 1-day course with our Certified Instructor. You’ll learn hunting laws and regulations, safety and equipment, techniques, responsibilities, and how hunting remains an important wildlife management tool in Ontario.

At the end of the course you’ll be tested on the knowledge and skills you acquired that day. 7 Hours of Instruction & Testing – $189.99

  • The Outdoors Card allows the bearer to purchase licences to hunt and fish in Ontario, also called “tags”. Hunting with a firearm still requires a PAL in addition to the appropriate tags.

  • The in-person OHEP course offers the opportunity to learn from an expert hunter and connect with other aspiring hunters. Some people prefer in-person learning to online learning. At our courses there’s no chance you’ll forget to finish the content or get bored! You’ll be ready almost immediately to obtain your Ontario Outdoors Card.

  • Completing the OHEP allows you to obtain an Outdoors Card as soon as 2 days after your course. It can be obtained through the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forrestry, participating Service Ontario locations, and other private issuers.

Funny, very informative, simplifies everything. You’ll never fall asleep. Probably the best in the business in the GTA.

Step 2 (Optional): Obtain My PAL (CFSC)

If you want to hunt with a firearm without direct and immediate supervision by a PAL holder, you’ll need to complete the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and apply for your Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL).

You can do so before or after taking Learn To Hunt (OHEP), however receiving your PAL takes several months, so we recommend starting early!
