Course Reports Take 8 Weeks
We understand… this isn’t very exciting information and your forgot about it as you got nervous your course report (or certificate) got lost in the cogs of the machine:
Course Reports take 8 weeks to arrive.
That’s 8 weeks from the date you complete your course to arrive in your mailbox from the Firearms Safety Education Service of Ontario (FSESO).
Here are a few more facts:
FSESO has a bunch of logging and checking to do for the CFO and RCMP and it takes them time to process each course report - that’s the “why” of the hold up.
Your course reports will be mailed to the address you filled out just prior to your written test. They won’t go to the address you booked your course under (if different). If you move in that 8 weeks please forward your mail.
If you took your courses back-to-back there is a good chance your course reports will arrive together in one piece of mail. If you spaced your courses part by more than a couple of days, they’ll most likely arrive separately.
Sometimes they arrive out of order. Sometimes you’ll get the Restricted certificate before the Non-Restricted. Don’t sweat it.
Sometimes your friends will get theirs first. It’s just a mystery of Canada Post. Don’t sweat it.
You get 2 carbon copies of each (the government is old school…). Send the most legible copy to the RCMP with your licence application - to make their lives easy. Keep a copy of each for yourself. Take a photo of them for your records.
There are a number of processes going on behind the scenes at FSESO and the RCMP to make sure they’ve logged the fact you’ve completed your course. Don’t worry too much about if your certificate is hard to read or about which copy to send. They know what’s up.
