Brainstorming Builds
As you know we're working on the Range Arts store (really, very close!), and as part of that we're thinking a lot about which guns fit with which accessories.
One of the features of our store website will be a package builder. Generally speaking the way it works is you start with a particular gun as your base and then change out a few parts. We’ll then assemble your package for you and you might get a bonus item (we’re working out the details).
Our very preliminary process of thinking about packages has included some pie-in-the-sky brainstorming which has in turn included thinking about our own dream "builds", looking at what other people are building, and, because we live in the future, asking computers what they think about it.
Jamesan’s Dream Build
Well… it's actually not his real dream build. That’s prohibited now… so it’s a fall back dream. And despite it being an American gun in a time when we all want to buy Canadian, we’ll give him a pass because a Remmington is an iconic hunting rifle.
Base Rifle:
Remmington 700 - Non-restricted, bolt-action rifle, maybe chambered in .308 win
Chassis Upgrade – MDT chassis - ESS or LSS for a more stable shooting platform and adjustable stock
Optic – Kahles 6-24x56i scope for flexibility short to longer range
Trigger – Triggertech Diamond for zero creep and zero friction, no pre-travel, able to set weight for lighter trigger pull
Action - Defiant Arms upgraded bolt
Barrel - Jamesan really wants a Faxon barrel, 24" length, bull barrel for twice the thickness, less recoil, more accurate shots, better heat dissipation. Too bad Faxon doesn’t make exactly what he’s looking for! He’ll have to keep researching!
Reddit Build
We saw on Reddit. We lurk in r/canadaguns despite the feet (if you know you know…). Sometimes the builds people share are really cool, and this one caught our eye.
Some people said it's gorgeous. Some complained they can’t afford it. All in all, everyone agrees: nice work.
Action: Pristine Action .308BF
Barrel: IBI MTU 1:8 5R, chambered in 6.5CM
Muzzle Brake: IBI 3 Gill Brake
Trigger: Triggertech Special
Scope Mount: Cadex Unitized Mount
Optic: Bushnell MatchPro ED
Chassis: KRG Whisky 3 Highland Green H200
Forend Accessory: KRG Spigot XL
Rail System: KRG 9.5” Arca Rail
Support Accessory: KRG Heavy Barrier Stop
AI Build
When we inevitably give AI robotic bodies we probably don't want them knowing too much about weapons. Maybe we shouldn’t be talking with AI about firearms. Thankfully AI isn’t very good at guns.
It turns out none of the stuff it suggests quite fits together. But anyway, AI is fun for brainstorming and could in theory help you come up with ideas for builds.
The AI named this precision rifle, "Cold Shot"
Purpose: Long-range precision shooting & hunting, modern tactical aesthetics
Base Rifle: Tikka Tac A1 Non-Restricted, Bolt-Action – we think the AI meant Tikka T3X TACT A1, known for great accuracy out of the box (the AI didn’t give us a caliber, but they com in 223 Rem and 260 Rem)
Chassis Upgrade – MDT ACC Premier Chassis, for increased stability, fully adjustable stock for comfort & precision shooting (cool idea from the AI, but this chassis doesn’t actually fit the Tikka Tac A1!)
Optic – Vortex Razor HD Gen III 5-25x56, high-end glass, crystal-clear visibility for extreme long-range shots (another nice idea, but this scope doesn’t seem to exist. We found a 6-36x56 - and what a price tag!)
Trigger - TriggerTech Special, and ultra-light crisp break for precise trigger control (we think this is coming out soon and the AI doesn’t know it’s not on the market yet for Tikka)
Muzzle Brake – Area 419 Hellfire, reduces recoil, improves follow-up shots and accuracy (this works, at least one thing works!)
Bipod – Atlas BT46, heavy-duty support for stable shooting in prone position
Cerakote Finish – Arctic White or OD Green, stealthy, weather-resistant, and looks badass in different environments
(Remember, this build doesn’t actually work. But it’s a nice try!)
